Tuition Fee
The tuition fee for the general medicine programme is *CZK 325,000 (approximately EUR 12,900 ) per year and for the dentistry programme is *CZK360,000 (approximately EUR 14,300) per year.

*CZK stands for Czech Crowns which is the official currency for the Czech Republic. EUR 1 : CZK 25.24 (based on 08.12.2011 rate)

 

Accommodation
There are 2 types of accommodation available for students in Prague:

  1. Halls of Residence
    Students are guaranteed a place in the university halls of residence for their first year. The halls of residence are spread out around Prague city, but are easily accessible from the faculty by the city public transportation. There are several halls of residence available (e.g. Kolej 17. Listopadu, Kolej Budec, Kolej Jednota) and students are assigned to their rooms according to the university’s accommodation office. There are two types of rooms: double-bedded rooms with shared kitchenette and bathroom facilities, or double-bedded rooms with communal showers and kitchenette at the end of each hall; both types accommodate two people per room. There are no single rooms available. The rental rates are from EUR 232 to EUR 450 a month.

  2. Private Apartments
    You can also rent private apartments in the city. There are many different types of apartments available from studio to three room apartments. The rental rates may vary according to their location and size.

 

Meals
Meals can be purchased either at the university canteen (EUR 3 - 6 per meal) or from any of the food outlets available in and around the city. There are familiar fast-food outlets like McDonalds and Kentucky Fried Chicken, as well as gourmet restaurants you can choose from. There are also many hypermarkets, supermarkets, and sundry shops that supply various Asian spices, vegetables and other products, so you can buy ingredients to cook at your apartment if you prefer a home cooked meal.

 

Transportation
There are various public transport facilities available in Prague, which include an underground metro, trains, trams, and buses. Tickets cost from EUR 1. However, as a student you are entitled to a transport pass which gives you a much cheaper rate. This costs about EUR 12 per month.

 

Health Insurance
Health insurance is to cover your medical expenses, hospitalization & other health-related emergencies when you are residing in the country. The policy must be valid for at least one year from the time you arrive. This health insurance coverage is also required for your long term residence permit application and renewal. There are various plans to choose from including a basic and comprehensive insurance policy. The premium is approximately EUR 450 per year.

 

Books & Equipment
Text books can be bought from local book stores in Prague or loaned from the medical faculty library. An estimated budget would be EUR 500 for one year. Equipment consists of tools necessary for the study of medicine at the faculty.
